Blurring the boundaries between folk, jazz and contemporary music, The Magic Lantern’s music examines the limitless depth of the human experience with devastating, joyous results. His upcoming fourth album 'A Reckoning Bell' written and recorded while helping to care for his father with Alzheimers disease, sees Jamie turn to the piano to explore what loss can teach us about love and how love’s many small acts give a life meaning. The result is a study in masculine vulnerability that sits with and acknowledges the inevitability of a loss witnessed in slow motion and the unexpected moments of joy that sustain us.
The Magic Lantern’s live show is a rich, cathartic and moving experience dedicated to addressing the fear and anxiety present in us all.
‘A Reckoning Bell’ is released on 5 November 2021 via Hectic Eclectic Records.
Tickets £15, Doors 8.15pm, music 8.45pm.
“Gorgeous, beautiful. This stopped me in my tracks. Slightly surreal, in all the right ways. One of those artists that I put on and whilst there are references to other types of music, he’s just one of those artists who sounds totally like himself. I think that’s a lot to do with his singing voice which is so unforced, I feel like his singing voice is like his speaking voice, and that’s really the goal with singing is to in someways make your singing voice as close to your speaking voice as possible. He really does that beautifully. Really original sounding music, especially if you’re a jazz listener, you can really get inside the musical intricacies of that but also just enjoy it as just a joyous beautiful piece of music." - Jamie Cullum, BBC Radio 2
“Dreamy, beautiful. Something very, very special."
- Lauren Laverne, BBC6 Music
“Extraordinary. Beautiful poised singing, amazing lyrics. Hypnotic!"
- Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 6 Music
