Music As Medicine: Ruth Blake Album Tour

Ruth Blake

John Haycock

Caulbearers V The Order of Love

Music As Medicine is back on 10th November presenting ethereal songstress, Ruth Blake and her much anticipated second album, ‘CREATION.’ Ruth performed at our first ever event at The Wonder Inn in 2016; making this a landmark return to Manchester with her album tour.

Ruth belongs to a new wave of music that nods to the indigenous medicine music traditions from around the world, with a primary emphasis on heart-wisdom, healing and connection - healing our relationships with ourselves, with each other, and with the very earth and wider cosmos from which we’ve sprung.

‘Ruth Blake is producing some of the most beautiful music i have heard in a long time’ John Lime, Glastonbury FM

This Music As Medicine will feature a unique collaboration between members of Caulbearers, The Order Of Love, Music As Medicine and other guest artists from the line up.

Plus support from the incredible multi-instrumentalist, live loop artist & master Kora player, John Haycock.

We invite you all to come and share an evening of acoustic roots, folk and funk, conscious lyrics and healing sounds.

RUTH BLAKE

Ruth Blake carries her audiences on powerful wings across lyrical skies, through every-changing landscapes that prise open our hearts, connecting us to our most intimate pains and joys. In one moment, simple, hypnotic guitar rifts, crystalline vocal melodies and subtle harmonies lead up open-eyed into the mystery; at another her wild spirit calls our human community to unite with rousing lyrics for this time in history - inspiring us to return to the truth of the heart.

Having worked in ceremonial contexts as a medicine-musician and space-holder, she weaves her music with a simple loving presence to assist people to drop into their hearts and access the deeper truths of their own hearts’ wisdom. A fierce advocate for self-knowledge, authenticity, and the dissolution of hierarchy, she is increasingly working to help people explore and heal their relationship with their own voices, creativity and self expression.

Her official Album launch takes place in Glastonbury on 26th October.

‘With its delicate harmonies, Ruth Blake’s music seems to emanate from a waking dream. Her compositions are made of shades of love, sweetness and strength’.

CAULBEARERS V THE ORDER OF LOVE

This Music As Medicine will feature a unique collaboration between members of Caulbearers, The Order Of Love, Music As Medicine and other guest artists from the line up.

CAULBEARERS

Archaic funk fables and soul migrations from this hybrid musical ensemble, who's songs explode with heavyweight grooves, fervent vocals and rich instrumentation.

Soaking up inspiration from afrobeat to post-punk, Indian ragas through to reggae and acid house, Caulbearers' music is full of dynamic, twisting structures and sonic invention.

Songwriter Damien Mahoney creates bitter-sweet tales of the self, soul and society. This is roots music from the rainy city: Psychedelic soul with poetic, social observation.

Typically a full-power groove machine with 8 members, an ever changing collective of core members and guests will combine to rework and improvise material on the night from previous releases and from Caulbearers’ forthcoming album.

ORDER OF LOVE

The Order Of Love is a collective of musicians creating live, improvised soundscapes and journeys on multiple instruments, initiated at MAM in October 2017. The core trio consists of Gavin Mullan, Nic Malin and Damien Mahoney, and guests have included Jason Singh, Olivia Moore, Madeeha Mubarak and Anton Hunter. The trio have brought this approach to Ecstatic Dance and Breathwork sessions throughout 2018, with the music undulating from gentle, melodic and meditative explorations through to percussion-heavy, hypnotic work-outs.

This Music As Medicine set will combine re-imagined Caulbearers tracks with improvised soundscapes and feature contributions from guest artists on the night, Ruth Blake and John Haycock.

JOHN HAYCOCK

John Haycock is a multi instrumental live looping artist passionate about affecting acoustic sounds with electronics exploring new sonority.

John takes his home made kora (21 string African Harp) And runs it through a series of electronic devices creating lush soundscapes and solid beats and overlays it with woodwind instruments, bridging the gap between ancient West African Folk melodies and modern electronica, visiting influences from hip-hop to house to dub along the way.

"His playing of the Kora is masterful and he adds an orchestral element, bringing out all that is beautiful about the instrument." - silent radio"

Here is John Haycock with his mesmerizing track 'Journey'.
