"Darkly emotional alt-rock that will caress your soul then drag you into the mosh pit, Life In Mono are a raw and beautiful musical powerhouse. Moulding textural elements of grunge, punk and metal around the dark heart of Sarah Clayton’s astonishing vocal, Life In Mono’s true power lies in their ability to capture their audience, to connect at a profound level; to induce a true emotional response. Add to that head banging riffs, face bending guitar solos, chest pounding bass as well as earth shaking beats and you have an experience unlike any other.

Although individually Life In Mono’s eclectic musical influences range from Meshuggah to Bach, via Hendrix, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, AC/DC and Deftones, collectively there are echoes of PJ Harvey, early Placebo and The Mysterines alongside a darker, heavier undertone. Whilst Grunge is a reference that cannot be avoided it could also belie the extent of the band’s musicianship. Guitarist James Davis, a devotee of vintage guitars, amps and homemade pedals, alternates masterfully between furious Zeppelin-esque solos, thrashing chords and delicate fills more reminiscent of Jonny Greenwood. Whether on guitar or vintage Hammond, Sarah's passionate and emotive vocal weaves gorgeous melodies through every track. Bassist Adam DT’s powerful groove, often featuring expertly harnessed feedback, sits atop the broad shoulders of Mike Gill’s unearthly drumming to create an intricate and ferocious rhythm section.

Adam and Sarah met whilst studying at Bath Spa university drawn to one another by a shared artistic vision, James came aboard thanks to a blistering performance at a local jam night and Mike, the final cog in the machine, was the perfect drummer at the perfect time. The result? Sad, intense and beautiful songs crafted by a band of sophisticated musicians that want nothing more than to connect with their audience, to make them feel… something; to share of themselves and sculpt relationships with every listener.

Music as a form of connection is important to the band, the depth of emotion conveyed, as well as integrity in the face of existential angst and absurdity. Outside of music Sarah, Adam, James and Mike each pursue a form of self-development, perhaps self-realisation. Sarah's dedication to writing, in her own words, allowing her to make sense of the world and explore themes of resilience and struggle; James devotes himself to music and the constant practice of guitar; Mike is a competitive powerlifter, with a penchant for philosophy and a love of metal and Adam delights in contrast and the challenge of creating within given constraints. Maybe Life In Mono are crafting the soundtrack to a contemporary musical revolution, perhaps they’re just a great rock band. You decide."
