Back in 1973 a band calling themselves the DICTATORS started out playing in New York City. They were quite influential and an integral part of the New York City punk rock scene, calling their home away from home CBGB's.

After three major record company releases the band broke up.

In the mid 1990s they came back together to play a bunch of successful shows in Spain. And in 2001 a new record got released. After a while things got to a point where two of the members of the band didn't want to continue any longer. Two of the members did. People from every state in America and many many countries all over the world would come to visit MANITOBA'S bar owned by lead singer of the DICTATORS, HANDSOME DICK MANITOBA. They wanted to hear the songs by the DICTATORS cover tunes and new tunes which Mr. MANITOBA began writing. Two of the founding members, Ross "The Boss", lead guitar, and Handsome Dick, lead singer, decided to go out and play again for their fans. Because it wasn't the entire original band they added NYC to their name DICTATORS to indicate a difference. The new band was now called the DICTATORS NYC. It was guitarist Ross "THE BOSS", "HANDSOME" DICK MANITOBA, guitarist DANIEL REY, bass player DEAN the "DREAM" RISPLER and drummer JP "THUNDERBOLT" PATTERSON.

Not long after, the band once again decided to change their name to make clear who they really are: MANITOBA NYC. MANITOBA NYC is the same exact band, lineup wise as the DICTATORS NYC.
