The Aerie ‘Selector Series’ aims to explore music and its
surrounding cultures by presenting a careful selection of DJs,
selectors, producers, collectors and music lovers.
Aerie invites
Leeds-based Barry’s Here aka Barry Smyth to delve deep into his
personal record collection and share some of his favourites on wax.
A
relentless record collector, Barry’s Here is at his happiest when he is
casting his short-sighted eyes over an untouched car boot sale.
Originally from Belfast, Barry’s Here hosted a lengthy residency at the
Beat Suite before relocating to Yorkshire, continuing his vinyl pursuit
where he supported some exceptional selectors and started the legendary
Leeds hip hop night New Bohemia alongside Gilla (First Word Records) and
festival promoter Noah Ball.
Founder of the Simpatico Sessions
collective, Barry’s Here is also one of the forces behind Jazz Club,
pretty much a love-in of all things jazz - both of which can be heard
each month on KMAH radio.
Some times he's even allowed down south to host his Open Up Your Senses night at Brilliant Corners.
His
DJs set tend to encompass soul, Brazilian, folk, jazz, Afro, boogie,
modern soul and hip hop, but if a record sounds perfect, it’ll be
played.
