With the launch of their debut album ’We Are A Band’ in June 2023, Bag of Cans managed to fool both listeners and mums around the country. Not only were they very much “a band” but a busy one too, embarking on two nationwide tours and a string of high-profile festival appearances, including Y NOT and Truck.
Released on Fierce Panda, We Are A Band attracted praise and airtime from BBC Radio 6 while lead single ‘Hostage at the Dinner Table’ was a joint winner on Steve Lamacq’s Roundtable. The LP’s infectious indie-rock melodies are tied together by the band’s penchant for the silly, culminating in a sold-out show on home soil at Norwich Arts Centre in the summer and a live session with John Kennedy on Radio X in the autumn.
Whether the lyrics focus on a crazed milkman (Milk and More), an odious old school friend (Hostage at the Dinner Table) or a pub-enthusiast (Pub Money), Bag of Cans’ song writing stems from a whimsical English tradition, taking nods from the Albarns, the Davies and the Dohertys of the world.
