Music As Medicine: Michael Stanton in concert

Music As Medicine is delighted to welcome guitarist and singer Michael Stanton for an intimate house concert in Manchester to share some of his original compositions and the many medicine songs he has collected from various traditions across the world.
With support from Manchester-based guitarist and composer, Andrew Mucha.

"Inspired by love for nature and ancestral wisdom,  Michael's soulful music offers a sincere voice to the heart of the world...  A sound reminiscent of the folk Traditions of Celtic Europe and Armenia, Brazil and Native America, Zimbabwe and West Africa; a sound to remind us we are all connected in this great mystery of life."
Michael has collaborated with, produced for and played alongside artists including Ayla Schafer, Rainer Scheurenbrand, Adrian Freedman, Sekou Keita, Misha Mullov-Abbado, Susie Ro, Murray Kyle, Lua Maria,  Faeland, Omer Makessa, Carrie Tree, Lucy Wyld, Avalon Roots, Ombiviolum, and James Frost.

“I would say that music is my first language.  Music is a way to communicate with the spirit and to share what is in the heart, and I am drawn to music from anyone who is truly playing from their heart, regardless of skill or genre.  In this way I feel that music has exceptional power to heal, with the possibility to feel deeply what is genuinely in our hearts and an opportunity to meet ourselves just as we truly are.  In this way I believe music is very therapeutic and consider myself a part of a global movement of healing through song, music and prayer.

I am particularly inspired by music which has a connection to nature, and a lot of my own compositions carry feelings and imagery of the living earth.  Singing of forests and rivers, mountains and oceans, the sun, the moon and the stars; a way to reconnect with the source of life.  Furthermore, the music of indigenous peoples from all over the world influence the sound and intention of my own musical expressions, including the music of a multitude of spiritual traditions

I am also greatly inspired by all the wonderful people who are mixing and sharing influences of a similar nature in what is becoming known as a culture of “Medicine Music”.

Doors 7pm - 11pm finish.
