This event is a collaborative effort where I have the pleasure to showcase local talent which have all left an impact on my musical journey. I hope to make this the first of many events ranging from different genres and venues but this event felt like it designed itself and is truly a symbol of its title - emotional response.
THE ACTS
SmittyD2047 - Plymouth based hip-hop/alternative rap artist drawing inspiration from 90's East coast hip-hop, modern UK sounds as well as alternative influences more aligned with my musical background - This set will be a reflection on where I started to where I am now, showing versatility and vulnerability.
Each Other - Are a fantastic act that came on my radar towards the end of last year and left an immense impression on me from the first performance I caught where they played as a duo. They have since added two members to be a four piece band which has only amplified the sound they are able to create - To assign any set of genres to Each Other would be reductive, they have crafted an organic, fluid and original sound, I implore you to catch these before they blow up!
Ginge - Is another act I met through the Marina Bar open mics - when I first saw the rawness and confidence in such young performers I knew I was in for a treat - The journey and development I've seen this band go through is incredible, providing me with some of the most compelling and truly interesting live musical experiences - The way I can best coin them is grunge jazz, however they have the ability to play a variety of styles and are stylish with improvisation - You don't want to miss this one!
Queen Izzard's Bird Blizzard - Is truly a once in a lifetime act - During my first trips to the Marina Bar Izzy held an aura of creativity and self-expression that surpasses most, that energy when transferred to the stage becomes one of the most dynamic, explosive and authentic performances you may ever catch - songs ending with Izzy writhing on the floor, pouring their heart out with every word, unsurmountable energy in every performance. I think this is truly a talent to behold.
Abi Bee - Is a wonderful local singer song writer who I met serendipitously at the open mics Café Momus host - she has been a massive inspiration to me and my musical progression providing one of the most impactful pieces of feedback I've ever received and is a truly one of the reasons I continue to do this - she harbours a unique voice which deserves more attention - whether she's performing one of her beautifully crafted original songs or a cover(my favourite being Rivers In Your Mouth by Ben Howard) her distinct tone and vocal ability is one to watch - very lucky to have Abi opening this event!
