Villanelle & The Northern Wonder are an independent Manchester based duo taking inspiration from Alex Turner and Josh Homme, Father John Misty and Nick Cave, with sprinklings of dark Americana and heady 70s fuzz rock.

The project debuted in 2019 as a solo venture by writer/vocalist Kieran Greville (formerly of London groove rock band Plastic People) but by early 2020, an evolution in sound and musical direction began to take place, with long-time collaborator Dan Shaw (writer/vocalist) joining Greville to form a formidable partnership. They released their debut EP ‘Dark Days at the Grand’ in April 2021, produced by Dave & Oscar of Sunglasses for Jaws (Miles Kane, Geowulf).

Since then the reaction to these songs in a live setting with their full band has been overwhelmingly positive across a flurry of local gigs including AATMA, Retro, Gulliver’s and their standout headline set at the Peer Hat, winning many new fans with their entrancing personas, swaying grooves and vivid lyricism.

Villanelle & the Northern Wonder are not a band to be missed.
