The Sprigs and Jemima w/ Beer Fear and Robber's Dog

A true smorgasbord of tones, scratches, wobbles, lagged jank, and everything else in between. Two of London's finest with two of Newcastle's bands.

The Sprigs are a slap-dash free-folk Wind In The Willows themed band. Stay with me here, because it's actually ruddy brilliant. With a releases on Infant Tree Records its easy to hear the influence of label boss and band member Rory Salter, but the trio carve out something unique and different than his solo output. All Night Flights describes it perfectly: "scrappy collage of naive keyboards, contact-mic rattle and frayed / guitar riffs with a certain British strain of woolly hermeticism, moments between moments sorta feel or the things that happen between actual songs. There prettier, bare-bones acoustic moments are perfectly offset with scruffier bits of muffled clatter, but each element constructs this perfect homey microcosm that leans closer to a feeling of optimism as opposed to some of the more claustrophobic route this stuff can take."

Jemima operate in similar world but infused with 90s guitar music and trip hop. Music for the house but heard from another room, smeared and smudged. Going to lean on All Night Flights again here: "It’s lonely music created around a wine bottle with a candle in it, made too late to appear via Xpressway or Cordelia. Don’t imagine though, that it has no home in the now. These spectres remain close because they know they are still wanted. We need them as much as they need us. We've been totally spellbound by these recordings for the best part of a year, Jemima's debut LP is a window into a half-lit world on a deeper plane of consciousness." Check out there LP on All Night Flight - its really really good.

Beer Fear bring the heat every time - found sounds, bass scrabble, warped vocals, loops - all the good stuff. A real favourite treat for us here.

New band Robber's Dog remain somewhat of a mystery to us and the band themselves, but janky broken folk/rock as industrial for fans of Discreet Records, The Shadow Ring, Orion Music Workshop - thats the plan anyway.
