“Doomy punk folk collective from Finland”

Slack Bird combines the best sides of the deep south and the cold north putting together classic Appalachian banjo playing and the dark melodies of drony Finnish traditional music. Hailing from Central Finland, Slack Bird has toured around the world from the clubs of New York to mud huts in German forests and everything in between. Slack Bird has released three full length albums, a bunch of singles, and a couple of EPs. Playing shows with various Slack Bird incarnations from one man banjo act to a full blown big band with horn and string sections, Slack Bird is coming back to the UK after five years as a 3 piece folk band with the 5-string banjo, button accordion, and cello.

"Slack Bird creates something here apologetically unique that is very approachable. Music like this becomes a shining light in a sea of imitation. To the Trad Folkies and Crust Punks alike, Slack Bird manage to straddle seemingly distant genres effortlessly and with aplomb."

-Fatea Magazine

"Slack Bird's music exists in the same space and time as you or me but it opens the doors of perception into a world that is utterly unlike yours or mine."

- Tuonela Magazine

Stormcrow play a variety of medieval and traditional folk, often delivered with a fine sense of humour. They have made several appearances for us before, including “We Shall Overcome” events and this time they will be celebrating the release of their new album “WOLF” which they describe as a collection of local tales and commentary on where we come from and the world around us. These are sandwiched between songs of wolves and folk horror.

Toft House audiences will be familiar with Sara Dennis as part of PEG POWLER and Bob Beagrie’s PROJECT LONO, plus a lovely solo spot last April when Winter Wilson were guests. She was also the driving force behind FOLKLINES, a fabulous series of gigs, in various venues, that successfully brought fans of folk music and performance poetry together.
