Praise for last year's 'Twisted Cord' single...(video below)
"It’s always a delight to support a talented Manchester band. it’s our pleasure to reveal the brilliant video for this song. Between the music and the cinematography, there’s so much to appreciate in this audio-visual offering." - Louder Than War Magazine.
"Twisted Cord throbs from the heart of 70s funk, walking in platforms with its Kool and the Gang of disco, dub, and hip-hop. It’s a headspinning track that crosses the roads of many genres and sub-genres of grassroots music, whilst venturing out further afield." - Single Of The Month - The Manc Review.
"This is music worthy of top-dog soundtracks. Caulbearers strut in with a sonic funkadelic swagger." - Spill Magazine
Based on the songs of producer and vocalist Damien Mahoney, Caulbearers' sound has been described as “archaic funk fables and soul migrations… bittersweet songs of the self, soul and society” and “roots music from the rainy city… psychedelic soul with poetic, social observation.”
The ensemble weave together elements of hip-hop, funk, dub, soul and jazz, with plenty of grit and discord in the mix.
Caulbearers’ rhythms, arrangements and soundscapes are hugely inspired by many forms of electronic music but are solely channelled through the use of live instruments.
This music reflects Manchester’s melting pot of culture and unashamedly draws from that rich heritage, but its influences and inspirations extend out globally.
