Concert: Sound of the Rainforest
Sunday 26th April | 7:30pm – 9:30pm
Immerse yourself in a unique evening of sound, spirit, and ancestral wisdom with Sound of the Rainforest — a powerful live experience led by Mew Yawanawá and accompanied by his daughter Yskunvasi Yawanawá.
Mew Yawanawá, a respected leader from the Matrincha village of the Yawanawá people, carries forward the ancient traditions of his lineage. At 38 years old, he is a devoted husband to Kenewma and father of seven children. His life’s work is rooted in protecting and nurturing the spiritual and medicinal knowledge of the forest. Trained by revered elders including pajé Tatá and Uncle Luiz (pajé Nixiwaka), Mew completed the sacred Muká diet and continues to work with healing prayers, medicinal plants, and traditional rituals.
He is also the founder of the Nii Vimi project, through which he teaches the wisdom of ancestral plant knowledge, ensuring it is preserved and passed on to future generations. Mew believes that by truly understanding the forest, we can connect with its spirit — opening pathways for deep healing, learning, and transformation.
Joining him is his daughter, Yskunvasi Yawanawá, who walks alongside her father on this spiritual path. A gifted singer, Yskunvasi carries the traditional songs of her people with a voice that resonates with the essence of the rainforest — powerful, grounding, and deeply moving. She also expresses her heritage through her artistry, creating paintings that embody the cultural knowledge passed down through generations.
Together, they invite you into a sacred soundscape of chants, songs, and stories from the Amazon — a rare opportunity to experience the living traditions of the Yawanawá people.
Come with an open heart and allow yourself to be guided by the sounds of the forest.
