Blair Dunlop + Ellie Gowers
The Folklore Rooms
Fri 26 march, doors 7:30pm / 8pm start
terrace cred. presents:
Blair Dunlop is still in his twenties, but he's come a long way since winning the coveted Horizon Award at the 2013 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, with his debut album 'Blight & Blossom'. His 2010 debut EP is now a collector’s item and, four albums in, he's poised to release a fresh EP, with a number of dates that include some selected, intimate venues. We're very honoured that Blair has chosen to play one of these for us in Brighton, since we share memories of some fab early dates here.
Technically superb, emotionally captivating, the 'vital bridge between Brit folk's first and latest flowerings' (Q magazine), Blair is the son of Judy Dunlop and Fairport Convention founder Ashley Hutchings, who gifted him the Albion Band name, Yet, he has carved out his own place in music, constantly exploring new sounds and techniques that bring him beyond his folk roots. His new music is already sounding unlike any of his previous releases.
“I finally feel established enough to not need to talk about ‘folk references’ or ‘Americana references’, but to just write beautiful songs. Back to basics and simple presentation of melody matched with intensity of lyric will be the way forward for the forthcoming EP.” says Blair,
“Blair is a true artist in his prime... just great songs. It’s been my honour to help him realise these sonic diamonds; I believe the world is his for the plundering”’ Ed Harcourt.

Special guest is Ellie Gowers.
Her songs are built from a childhood love of literature and traditional folk song, but also discuss the more modern narratives of the present day. These influences fuse together to create a sound that has been deemed unique and incomparable.
'A strong, crystal clear voice... an act to watch.'
