Afro Haitian Dance - with Evan Clercema 🇭🇹

Evens Clercema – Master’s in Cultural Management, Bachelor’s in Sociology. Professional Choreographer and Dancer.

Evens Clercema currently resides in Chile and is one of the most promising talents in contemporary Haitian dance. As a dancer and choreographer, he has developed his own technique, the #Clercema Technique. His work offers a renewed approach to dance, maintaining a balance between tradition and modernity. He was the winner of the Muta Danza Chile 2023 award in the Direction and Choreography category for his piece Sumergir en la Negritud (Immersing in Blackness).

He currently serves as the Coordinator of Vocational Ensembles and teaches African and contemporary dance at the University of Santiago, Chile (USACH). He is also the Artistic Director and Choreographer of Arte & Cultura JAFCO América and the President of the JAFCO AMÉRICANA Intercultural Foundation.

Programme:

Technique for African Dance and Strengthening of Joints, Flexibility to Improve Body Awareness

The programme incorporates academic technical elements applied to traditional dances. Throughout the sessions, participants will work on a specific Afro-Haitian rhythm: Ibo, which symbolises wisdom, victory, and freedom.

By connecting with ancestry, participants will engage their bodies and willpower, fostering a balance between mind and emotion. The class will involve learning and internalising a choreographic sequence based on the Ibo rhythm. It will conclude with a recovery process, stretching, and relaxation, promoting overall well-being and a harmonious connection between body, mind, and soul.

The class will be recorded to ensure accessibility for those unable to attend live. It will remain available on the platform for six days before the next session, allowing students to replay the lesson as many times as they wish.

Additionally, I will create extra video tutorials covering warm-up exercises and more complex sequences to support learning and facilitate a deeper understanding of the movements.

Don’t miss out on this master class in Afro Haitian dance!!! 🇭🇹🪘🙏🏿
