Bed and Breakfast and Melting Vinyl Present : Astles and the Balloon Moon Orchestra with Lucy Feliz & The Roebucks live at The Folklore Rooms in Brighton
15 September 2022
Doors 19:30
Astles’ songwriting celebrates the refuge of music to a young lad in the North West, surrounded by football-focussed men and machismo — to which his music is the perfect antidote. For two years, Astles has been working independently to create the world around his music: from the upcoming string releases recorded with Sophie Ellis and Bill Ryder Jones, to the expansion of his live show, at points featuring the full Balloon Moon Orchestra. The Liverpool-based songwriter is back with a spring in his step and a collection of songs that furthers his formative sound, described as ‘gorgeous, lilting indie’ by the NME.
Astles is embarking on an independent UK tour this September in collaboration with Bed & Breakfast Live Music and supported by PRS Momentum funding. The Balloon Moon Orchestra will be playing at unconventional venues around the country starting at a bespoke independent cinema in Astles’ hometown Southport. Having recently signed to 7476 (Matt Maltese, Mathilda Mann), Astles will release his first single on the label this Autumn.

Brighton based artist Lucy Feliz writes with nostalgic intimacy, neatly dovetailing her subconscious writing style with a blend of impressionistic alternative pop. Born out of a secret solo project entitled ‘Los Feliz’; inspired by an existential trip to the Griffith Observatory in LA; Lucy’s work has a veiled mystery to it, that even she is aware of… delving into Jungian ideals.
Her sophomore album "Last of The Sun”, was released on Scottish label OK Pal Records in late 2020, with tracks featured on 6 Music, support from Steve Lamacq, and single ‘Last Laugh’ featured on a BBC Music Introducing ‘Working From Home’ Mix, during the first national lockdown.
“A fantastic return, an immersive journey that is so potent, and so suggestive. Recalling everyone from Asobi Seksu to elements of Angel Olsen, her work has a gripping sense of directness to it, shrouded in opaque mystery”
– Clash Magazine
The immersive collection of songs were recorded in New Zealand’s Sitting Room with award-winning producer Ben Edwards (Marlon Williams, Julia Jacklin, Nadia Reid, Aldous Harding). Saturated with a dream-like quality, with psychedelic guitars and ghostly ivories, we see the attention shift away from the realism of personal histories to a more fluid terrain.

Hailing from Brighton, The Roebucks have been playing together for just a couple of years and have already made a name for themselves on the south coast gigging circuit. The band - which is Lola Gordon, Ezra Jellinek, Tom Cotter and Henry Brown - put songwriting to the forefront of their creative process and the result is country and Americana-influenced indie brimming with jangly melodies and call and response vocal harmonies.
After a couple of years of gigging, The Roebucks were picked up by Sheffield-based independent label Bingo Records for the release of the debut EP 'Rolling On 'Til Dawn' featuring first single 'sable'. With extensive touring a priority in the eyes of the band, you can expect to see The Roebucks at a venue near you soon.
