Rafael Pollo Brito is a pioneer of the new musical scene in Venezuela and a tireless promoter of the country’s talent. Brito’s musical approach seeks to mix traditional afro-Venezuelan rhythms with elements from pop music, which combine with the harp and the Venezuelan cuatro to produce an innovative and refreshing sound.

Rafael has been a part of numerous orchestras and bands, not only as an oboe or cuatro player, but also as a choir singer, composer, arranger and musical director. He is a member of the prestigious “El Sistema” National Orchestras of Venezuela and he has served as an oboe player in state orchestras and in the Simon Bolivar Symphonic Orchestra. As a singer, he has founded such renowned groups as Ensamble Saúl Vera, Arcano, Alzheimer and Trabuco – group with which he featured in a session for the BBC Radio 3 programme ‘World Routes’.

Over the course of his career, Rafael has shared a stage with such personalities of Venezuelan music as Simon Díaz, Aldemaro Romero, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Soledad Bravo, Cheo Hurtado, Alexis Cardenas, Bobby Valentín, Aquiles Báez, Cecilia Todd, Gualberto Ibarreto, María Rivas, Oscar D’León, Aymée Nuviola, Felipe Peláez, Chuchito Sanoja, among others.

Rafael has representen Venezuela on a world stage, showcasing his talents as a cuatro player and singer in concert halls in Germany, Argentina, Belgium, Chile, China, Colombia, Cuba, USA, Guatemala, Honduras, Britain, Japan, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, the Dominican Republic, Aruba, Spain, France and Switzerland.
