From the Muse to the Market: Crossing the Bridge (Workshop)

Dr. Vivien Young is a Personal and Professional Development Coach who has been working with The Wonder Inn team since close to its inception. She's visiting the UK from the USA and holding this one-off inspiring, and hands-on workshop on Thursday 29 June.

Here's what you can expect:

"We'll explore what it takes for artists, solo-preneurs and other cultural creatives to hear the call of the muse, heed the call, do the work, (keep doing it until it's complete), wrap it up, and walk across the bridge to the marketplace. This moves the work from the status of Gift through to Commodity and back to Gift again in the hands of the buyer, leaving you free to keep creating.We'll examine, in brief, what stops us at each stage and come up with a quick and dirty plan for handling those roadblocks and obstacles reliably so you can be in action immediately!

Author Lewis Hyde in his book, The Gift, writes, '... there are three primary ways in which modern artists have resolved the problem of their livelihood: they have taken second jobs, they have found patrons to support them, or they have managed to place the work itself on the market and pay the rent with fees and royalties.'

Vivien - a native-born Scot - has been a Personal and Professional Development Coach for over 30 years, working with business women (and men), small companies, entrepreneurs, managers, leaders, professionals, artists, writers, and other creative types. She's done this 1-1, in person, by phone and Skype, and in workshops, seminars, college classes and telecourses from California to Hong Kong!

She is also a photographer and writer, who deals with these issues herself on a near-constant basis!
