Zoka The Author is a boundary-pushing lyricist and performer whose work blends poetic depth with genre-defying soundscapes. Even before his official career began, his inclination to test creative boundaries was clear: he toured a collaborative poetry album across the UK and garnered international media attention from outlets like BBC News and Der Spiegel for creating a rap album as his university dissertation, which earned him a First Class Honours degree.
Since graduating in 2019, Zoka has quickly risen in the underground UK music scene, using his intricate lyrical storytelling to craft EPs and singles that explore themes of race, cultural identity, and mental health. His single "ELEPHANT," featuring JyellowL, secured a coveted spot on the Glastonbury Emerging Artist Competition Longlist, as well as Spotify’s “New Music Friday” and “Just Dropped” editorial playlists. His meticulous attention to detail has drawn praise from several industry heavyweights, including producer Ricky Damian (who has worked with Jorja Smith and Yebba), and led to his music being supported by major radio stations such as BBC Radio 1xtra, BBC Radio 2, and KISS FM, as well as in press outlets like Wonderland, EARMILK, and Link Up TV.
His live performances have become a hallmark of his career, known for their energy, charisma, and intimate storytelling. Alongside his world-class live band, Zoka has headlined and sold out iconic venues like O2 Academy Islington, Colours Hoxton, and The Lower Third. He has also supported renowned artists such as Enny, OMA, and Steam Down at prestigious venues like The Jazz Café and Shoreditch House, as well as making a major festival appearance at Love Supreme in 2025 performing as part of The Five Points Project.
