About Petros Singers

Petros Singers

The choir

“It was exquisite music. I really felt uplifted afterwards, and slept like an angel with memories of the heavenly choir”

A vibrant choral community, we perform a wide-ranging and diverse repertoire, collaborating with leading orchestras and soloists in West and central London and occasionally further afield.

Petros Singers is a chamber choir drawing its membership from a wide geographical area across West and North London. We give at least three concerts each year, mainly in West London but also performing regularly in central London venues - such as St James’s, Piccadilly and Grosvenor Chapel - with top-class soloists and period instrumentalists. Other collaborations have been with the London Mozart Players, I Fagiolini and His Majesty’s Sagbutts and Cornetts.

The choir consists of around 35 auditioned singers. The standard is high and rising. Our repertoire is diverse, from major oratorios to exquisite unaccompanied miniatures. Voice training is a regular feature of rehearsals, both from our Musical Director, Richard Bannon, and from invited guest conductors. Our Patron, the internationally regarded mezzo-soprano Sally Burgess, complements the Musical Director’s teaching by focusing on singing technique and interpretation at occasional rehearsals, while workshops have been led by noted conductors and voice coaches including Bob Chilcott, Stephen Cleobury, Ken Burton, David Lowe, Deborah Miles-Johnson, Miriam Allan, Giles Underwood, Sue Waters and Edward Caswell.

We rehearse every Tuesday evening during term time from 8:00 to 9:45 pm in St Peter’s Church, Black Lion Lane, on the borders of Hammersmith and Chiswick (Stamford Brook or Ravenscourt Park tubes).

The choir was founded in 1983 as St Peter’s Singers, having emerged from members of the eponymous church choir looking to perform a wider repertoire. Previous conductors are Christopher Bracewell, Mark Lowther, Michael Emery (Senior Producer of the BBC Singers), and Duncan Aspden. As we had long-since spread our wings from our church base and become a purely concert choir, in 2011 our name was changed to Petros Singers.
