OUTER WAVES

In just one week Italian avant noise / prog / jazz-core power trio ZU headline Quarry with support from Liverpool's finest prog pop ensemble a.P.A.t.T. & live power electronics noise conjurer Quieting. Officially born in Ostia, on the sea of Rome Italy in 1997, ZU have released more than 15 albums, most notably on Mike Patton's IPECAC RECORDS and played thousands of shows throughout the planet, gaining a cult status worldwide. Genre-defying and boundary-blurring, the band has evolved a unique musical language following its own personal path. Parts of metal, noise, prog, electronic music, ambient, industrial, and contemporary music, are transformed and reshaped in their unique form, resembling none of the above. With new drummer Paolo Mongardi in tow - Zu's new album 'Ferrum Sidereum' is 'glorious, unleashed, reckless and headbanging-worthy all in one' with its sprawling sax-scape, hectic bass rhythm and relentless intense drumming mastery. It's just ten short weeks until Outer Waves Festival once again takes over the Invisible Wind Factory & Make for 2 days of sonic experimentation & boundary pushing performance. We are very happy to once again be working with AV maestros Sam Wiehl & Kromavision (Venya Krutikov) framing the incredible performances across all 3 stages with their bespoke lighting and visual alchemy. Our open call is now closed - we've been totally blown away by the number & quality of the submissions - our 5 successful applicants have now been notified and will be announced v soon! We still have a series of workshops, commissions, panel discussions and more to announce - keep your eyes peeled for the final line up drop coming at the end of March. We are now accepting artist submissions for Outer Waves Festival 2026. We are looking for artists working in alternative, underground and experimental music and sound, as well as performance and audio-visual practice, to perform as part of the festival’s main programme. Applicants based in the Liverpool City Region and those from underrepresented backgrounds will be prioritised.
