Moss Side Fire Station Boxing Club

This initiative was set up by front line fire fighters working in the Moss Side area who identified a problem associated with anti-social behaviour by young people and a growing trend amongst disaffected youth in the area to target fire fighters for verbal and physical abuse.

The initiative is a grass roots project run by local fire fighters in their own time and its aims and objectives are to:

“commit to long term meaningful engagement with all young people in the community we serve, to promote and develop in these young men and women the personal qualities and attributes we value as fire fighters, to act as role models and mentors to help mould the citizens of tomorrow.”

This initiative has since developed so that as well as the original statement we are also:

”committed to meaningful engagement with all members of the community, encouraging community cohesion, breaking down barriers and providing an environment that challenges and empowers all members of the community regardless of age, gender, disability, cultural or religious affiliation.”
