Fighting Colours are a modern rock band formed and based in Brighton. The band’s sound incorporates a number of stylistic elements from subgenres such as hard rock, alt rock and math rock, as well as the occasional dash of indie & electronic music, in a similar vein to Biffy Clyro, Marmozets, Arcane Roots & PVRIS. Listeners can expect rollercoaster ride-esque songs, fusing catchy choruses & filthy riffs, and gig-goers are treated to energetic, sweaty & magical live shows.

The beginnings of Fighting Colours go all the way back to the summer of 2019, when guitarist Pete Ferris & singer Jasmine Ardley met and began working on songs & demos together. Other band members joined and, with a solid fistful of songs and a well-rehearsed live set, the band revealed themselves to the people of Brighton in March 2020...and then the lockdown happened.

Not keen to sit idly by, Fighting Colours kept working, writing more songs and even recording two singles, ‘To the Bone’ and ‘A Billion Smiles’, the latter of which was played by Melita Dennett on BBC Introducing The South in its week of release in July 2021. The band followed this up with a full-throttle return to the stage, capping off a solid year of gigging with the release of their debut EP ‘Wishing Well’. This release showcased the diversity of the band’s sound - the blaring, anthemic opener ‘Your Choice Now’ and closing title track contrasted with the twisting, turning bruiser ‘The Boat Starts to Shake’ and the anxious, moody ‘The Cure’. ‘Wishing Well’ was released in November 2022 and Fighting Colours marked the release with a sold-out headline show in their hometown of Brighton, as well as their debut gig in London, at the legendary Fiddler’s Elbow.
Though Fighting Colours have been quiet for the first half of 2023, they have been by no means inactive. Though the core lineup of the band currently comprises solely of Jasmine & Pete, they have ploughed ahead to bring you their next single - ‘Calling’, out on 29th September.

Featuring the final contribution of former bassist Stan Mitchell and a heavy-hitting drum performance by Jack Wrench (Arcane Roots, Jamie Lenman, James And The Cold Gun, In Dynamics), ‘Calling’ is a frantic, aggressive mosh pit-starter. Having recorded the track almost entirely DIY (barring drums), the band are at their most confident and self-assured to date. Across 3 minutes & 10 seconds, frantic drums, searing vocals and walls of bruising guitar & bass are ably balanced by Luke May’s mixing and a stellar master from Chris Coulter (Arcane Roots, Jamie Lenman, Arctic Lake, Idles). Make no mistake - Fighting Colours are shooting for gold.
