About Doncaster Dome

Doncaster Dome

The Dome, Doncaster: A Bio

Designed by architect Faulkner Brown, the venue was conceived as a catalyst for community regeneration and remains a hub for over 50 different activities under one roof. While widely recognised for its "Ice Caps" (the UK's only split-level ice rink) and "The Lagoons" swimming complex, the facility is equally renowned as a flexible, high-capacity events venue.

The Event Space: The Hall

At the heart of The Dome’s entertainment offering is The Hall, a versatile, large-scale arena that transforms to suit the needs of local, national, and international event organisers.

Versatility: The Hall is designed for maximum adaptability. Its retractable seating and expansive floor space allow it to shift seamlessly from a concert arena to a sporting venue, exhibition hall, or large-scale conference centre

Capacity: The venue offers significant capacity, accommodating anywhere from small, intimate meetings to major events with audiences of up to 3,000 people.

Support Facilities: Beyond the main arena, The Dome offers dedicated meeting rooms, such as the Conference Room, the Forum, and private hospitality boxes that overlook the main hall, making it a comprehensive choice for corporate functions, trade fairs, and private gatherings.

Types of Events

The Dome’s ability to "shape-shift" makes it suitable for a wide variety of public and private events:

Live Music & Comedy: The Hall has played host to a long list of notable musical acts, ranging from rock and indie bands (such as The 1975, Catfish and the Bottlemen, and The Strokes) to iconic performers. It is also a regular stop for national touring comedians and theatrical productions.

Sporting Events: The arena is well-equipped for high-energy sporting events, having hosted events like Premier League Darts, strongman competitions, and professional boxing bouts.

Exhibitions & Trade Fairs: With its generous floor space, The Dome is a prime location for large exhibitions, local trade shows, and community festivals.

Community & Charity Events: The venue frequently supports local causes, hosting charity galas, fashion shows, and community-focused celebrations, cementing its role as a civic hub.

Why It Matters

For over three decades, The Dome has been more than just a sports centre it is a vital part of Doncaster’s identity. Its architecture and multi-functional design allow it to serve as a high-traffic leisure attraction by day and a high-energy entertainment venue by night. Whether hosting a world-class concert or a local community meeting, The Dome continues to be a central pillar of social and cultural life in South Yorkshire.
