Horace Andy + Adrian Sherwood

A London Borough of Culture special! Featuring Adrian Sherwood, as he brings along one of the most important names in Reggae, with Massive Attack vocalist and reggae superstar Horace Andy.

Horace Andy + Adrian Sherwood

Horace Andy  is a Jamaican roots reggae songwriter and singer, known for his distinctive vocals and hit songs such as "Government Land", as well as 'Man Next Door" "Angel", "Spying Glass" and "Five Man Army" with English trip hop duo Massive Attack. He is also famous for a cover version of "Ain't No Sunshine". Andy is often described as one of the most respected and influential singers in Jamaica

‘Give up the land, government man. Give up the land.’ Hearing Horace Andy’s incredibly distinctive voice echo out across the courtyard venue was surreal, after listening to recordings of the reggae and trip hop artist for so many hears. Andy has been performing for over 40 years now, and his back catalogue of hits and collaborations with huge artists such as massive attack guarantees a great show.
He opened with his famous cover of Ain’t No Sunshine, blew the audience away, and didn’t stop there. Everyone was mesmerised, singing along, swaying to the reggae beats, and embracing the atmosphere. It’s rare to be in such close proximity with so much talent, and I was stunned from start to finish. He sang his way through Serious Times, as well as revisiting some of his much older hits. Andy’s interaction with the audience was really touching and personal. He encouraged everyone to join in with certain songs, and was great and making the crowd laugh. He also played an unreleased electronic song that he had been working on, which was awesome to hear before it was even released. He’s such a legend and I’d definitely see him again with the chance.
