7 - 11 Musical Discoveries

Weekends are saturated. Night life can be exhausting. If you're like most, the week sucks: it's mainly work, home, work. Why not come together at decent hours, in interesting spaces, with good people and listen to exquisite music on a ... weekday. Maybe even let loose, dance and lose your mind a little. This is what 711 Musical Discoveries is all about.

-----

We return to our classic 7-11pm weekday format for an extra special free one.

The legendary Miro sundayMusiq will be blessing our ears alongside skilled emotional craftsman Dragos, for our first party north of the river, at the newly renovated Brick Lane venue Werkhaus.

Free entry. Doors from 6:30, music stops at 11:30. Food & bites available from Cafe 1001 out front.

It's hard to choose what to write about Miro. Over the years he's been a regular at many revered London institutions including The Pickle Factory, Brilliant Corners, Rye Wax and The Cause, often alongside mates like Jane Fitz. He's only gone and founded the independent, community driven station Netil Radio (as well as doing shows on other London staples like Balamii or Rinse FM) and he's played one of the most intimate and interesting Boiler Rooms ever I dare say. A monstrous record collector and dj, with an immaculate reputation built through steady, real work and by sticking to what he believes in before anything else. Genuinely humbled to have him play a 711 event.

Dragos recently played a 6 hour set at Brilliant Corners exclusively consisted of Romanian vynil from the past few decades (it's where he grew up). I think this fact alone says a lot about this dj and selector. It wasn't the first time he deep dived this way, his staple show on Miro's Netil Radio having long transitioned into this brand of sharp investigation work rather than the more usual 'personal angle mix' that independent radio hosts do. That's not to say he does this when lighting up a dancefloor: he'll most often take you on wide and interesting trips without such a rational thread going through, but rather (as he will gladly point out) an emotional one. All the while he's guided by spontaneity, slowly accumulated experience and a vast music collection to pick from. If things go Dragos' way, he's one day going to be up there in 'proper dj' hall of fame like territory, something that producer-djs or other something-dj types can't reach. And every time you come see him you catch a glimpse of what the journey towards that is like at ground level. This is why we're always so happy to have him back to 711 events.

Your host Mihai B will slip a few slow warmers in while people are coming through the door, then it's the big boys all the way through.
