Jungle Cakes takes over Joshua Brooks on Friday 6 February.
The label that made jungle sell again brings its three headline acts to Manchester for a basement session. Ed Solo and Deekline, the duo behind Jungle Cakes since 2009, join forces with Benny Page, the Digital Soundboy graduate responsible for Turn Down The Lights and more than 400 catalogue releases. Navigator, whose Radio 1 residency gave jungle its first national platform, hosts proceedings.
Between them, they have built the infrastructure that kept jungle commercially relevant. Fifteen volumes of Welcome to the Jungle compilations, Beatport chart toppers, and a roster featuring the core names of modern jungle production. Ed Solo’s credits stretch back to sessions at S.O.U.R Records during the Original Nuttah era. Deekline’s I Don’t Smoke hit the UK Top 20 and shaped breakstep. Benny Page earned a John Peel playlist spot early in his career.
Joshua Brooks’ Void Acoustics system handles the low end weight this music demands. The basement has hosted underground sessions for more than thirty years and is built for this sound.
Limited capacity. Jungle heads know the drill.
