Matthew Logan Vasquez is a face - and a voice - you might well recognise. The former frontman of Delta Spirit, he's a songwriter of unusual depth, of remarkable poetry. Turning solo, Matthew has been working on an album of new material, inspired by a life of ups and downs.
Musing on this recently, the singer said: "My point is that life is a struggle but how can you have optimism and hope if you don’t have something negative? Context is what makes it meaningful."
New cut 'Headed West' exemplifies this attitude - gilded Americana, it gleams with the promise of mythic California, twinkling in the distance.
He explains: "If you live in California it's easy to forget what an odd and wonderful place it is. After moving to New York and then Austin I felt I could really appreciate the facets that I both love and hate."
