Hello worms. We are super happy to be able invite you to our first ever summertime day party!
We've been dying to do one of these for a very long time, and so we finally have the location, the DJs, the date and extra ingredients and it's set to be a scorcher ☀️
On Sat July 15th we take over Arbor Ales brewery for a party of ''totally tropical proportions''.
...
Expect heavy funk, dancefloor-Jazz, Caribbean grooves, Latin-American shakers, sounds from Jamaican, Cuba, Brazil, and other spicy global selections via crates upon crates of wax, proper fat USBs (lol), and a bunch of fantastic DJ selectors across an 8 hour party, on a nice decent soundsystem!
We love Easton... us worms have enjoyed living there, and we started our party in Easton in 2014 so we’re very glad to be doing this event in BS5!
Gracing the decks for the first ever outdoor Worm Disco Club party is:
Cami Layé Okún (Cuba/NTS)
Long time NTS resident of the show ‘Insolar’, Cami Layé Okún is a Cuban DJ/selector inspired by the worldwide cultural diversity of rhythms. She has a relaxed and classy presence behind the decks, her chosen sounds span from the tropical to the tribal; think African and Caribbean rhythms mixed with a Latin soul and sensibility.
As a DJ, Cami brings together many of the lost sounds of the diaspora, to move dancefloors wherever she plays in the world. Currently living in Havana, she curates vinyl-focused events and feeds off the process of being a vinyl digger and inhabitant of the unique island of Cuba to inform her musical energy and slant.... a real cocktail of musical flavours is the result. Expect serious hip- shaking and feet shuffling selections.
DJ Nomad (Berlin/Africaine808)
Growing up exposed to a mix of youth cultures in the 70's and 80’s, Nomad’s musical trip started proper when he discovered the Afro/cosmic disco movement and DJ culture. With an acute love for poly-rythms & African drums and percussion, he enjoys mixing modern electronic dance music with tropical, African, latin and afro-grooves. Modern soul to afro-rock, percussive-House to Zouk, Cumbia to Soukousse…
Nomad is known as as one of the biggest collectors of African and Tropical (70’s/80’s/90’s) dance-music in Europe, and is an expert on West-African, as well as South-African Soul, Funk and Disco.
His ‘Vulkandance’ parties have became a trademark for Berlin's lovers of unheard, transcultural dance music. He's also a resident of the legendary "Tropical Discotheque’ parties in Paris and has rocked dancefloors from the arctic-circle to Canada, NYC to L.A, across Caribbean Islands through to Tokyo and Hong Kong. He's a don and we're really glad we can finally host him.
Miss Mash (Bristol via London)
From the older heads with decades of experience to the newer in the game, something we pride ourselves on at Worm Disco Club is bringing both new and established DJs to our events here in Bristol. Balance is key. The third name on our line up is a DJ we’ve been enjoying both on radio and when we’ve seen her play.
Part of the newly emerging ‘Brakery’ and ‘AnExperience’ crew here in Bristol ‘Miss Mash’ aka Masha is selecting a lovely mix of her own influences and flavours in her sets. Her radio shows on Balami are a relaxed and joyful affair! We've invited Masha to add to the Bristol contingent and open our first ever day party with selections that span from Samba to Reggae to Broken Beat and beyond!
Worm Soundsystem:
The 3 worms Jackson, Jake and Nathan will be closing proceedings with their b2b2b mix of global funky heat. Expect groove-heavy bangers, dancefloor Jazz shakers, afro bumpers, percussive melters, Disco-boogie goodness and more! Importantly, expect the unexpected!
~~
As well as the DJs and the dancefloor, we’ll also have:
- A handpicked selection of Arbor's fresh & cold on-site brewed beers, lagers, cider, gin, rum, non-alcoholic beers and refreshing softs!
- Delicious Venezeulan Street Food from 'Casa Latina'.
- Ice Creams, Sorbets and Fresh Fruit!
- Live art being created by some of the Bristol Mural Collective.
- Worm summer garms & the lovely event poster for sale!
- Added decor and a few other notable surprises…
INFO:
Tickets are £15, £17.50 and £20 via Headfirst and RA.
We recommend grabbing an advance ticket!
(Mailing list peeps, we did send out a special link but would love to know if you didn't receive it.
We think Mailchimp did a funny one this time, so if you're getting our regular mailouts but not the last one, let us know and we can send you the link or check your spam folders and add us to your contacts!)
Children:
We are opening this event up for you to bring your little ones along. We've always been a party which is more about having a fun loving , dance focused & relaxed, open and friendly crowd than simply one which is overshadowed by a heavy edge of hedonism. While we do like to get 'loose' we do want our day parties to be open to as many people as possible - we get what being a parent is like and we also think little kids are fun!
For this event we have decided that children will be welcome between the hours of 2pm and 6pm and will be entitled to free entry upon an 'Adult + Child' ticket being purchased! We hope this enables a good few of you to come and enjoy the atmosphere inn the afternoon with your little rascals in tow and maybe even find a babysitter for the evening
---
On the day: Please bring I.D, sunglasses, suncream, comfy shoes and the hunger to dance, drink mingle and enjoy the party and DJs. We're excited, hope you are too!
See you July 15th!
