Cost: Free to attend. The venue asks that everyone buys a drink at full price

Note the name: this venue has traded as The Tron, so older references may use that. Reviewers describe a multi-level room with a pool table and screens, a well-poured Guinness and a regular karaoke night, which is worth checking against your date.

Getting there: The venue is on Hunter Square just off the Royal Mile, four minutes' walk from Edinburgh Waverley — so it is reachable directly by train from Glasgow, London and across Scotland.
