GMIF-Using Movement To Inspire Character And Subvert Cliché

Do you find yourself constantly playing the same type of characters? Do you rely too much on words to say who you are? We’ll be exploring how we can use our physicality to create unique and interesting characters. We’ll be taking inspiration from movement theoretician Frederick Laban, who identified three Efforts: Space, Weight and Time. We'll be floating, punching, gliding, slashing, dabbing, wringing, flicking, and pressing, to widen our physical vocabulary to express how we feel inside. Then, inspired by these Effort Actions, we’ll explore agreement in scenes, which will at first heighten, and then subvert, the expectations around stereotypes.
