Soul Sessions Brum Presents: Funktober Festival 2025 - Feat The Honey Drops / Hunzz / Astrofunken / Collective Sleep
📍 The Night Owl, Digbeth, Birmingham
📅 Thursday 9th October
Soul Sessions Brum returns to The Night Owl with a special night of funk, soul and retro sounds.
✨ The Honey Drops – Listening to Soul music wasn’t enough. Neither was dancing to it or digging records. The Honey Drops came out of an obsession, a will and, to a degree, a need. Writing and playing songs they’d love to hear in the darkest of dancefloors, the place to soak up new and obscure tracks from days-gone-by without losing the perspective of time. To sweat and move, to let go and groove. They got the Soul. They got the Rhythm. And they got the Blues. After their shows in the North West and on the east coast of Spain last year, The Honey Drops, from Manchester, will play at Soul Sessions in Birmingham — so bring your finest dancing shoes on the 9th October.
✨ Hunzz – A contemporary five-piece Funk/Jazz/Pop outfit from North Wales, blending classic styles to create a unique melodic sound. Made up of members Rosie Hamilton, Samuel Roberts, Owen Jones, Ciaran Fletcher and Matthew Bicknall, Hunzz are seasoned musicians: Sam has toured the UK/Europe supporting The Magic Numbers, while Rosie has toured the UK and played festivals, opening Beatherder’s main stage before Nile Rodgers & Chic. Their unique vocals are paired with smooth basslines, dynamic drum beats, funky guitar riffs, sweet keyboard melodies, and floaty saxophone/flute. Vocal harmonies add the finishing touch to Hunzz’s distinctive soundscapes.
✨ Collective Sleep – A genre-blending Alternative Soul band based in Birmingham, known for their dynamic live shows and immersive, groove-rich sound. Combining soulful vocals, lush harmonies, and soaring guitars, they draw inspiration from icons like Stevie Wonder, Prince, and Herbie Hancock, as well as modern acts like Khruangbin and PJ Morton. Their forward-thinking fusion of soul, jazz, and ambient grooves makes them a standout presence in the city’s live music scene.
Expect an evening of live music, stellar vibes, and Digbeth’s trademark energy in one of the city’s most loved independent venues.
