DEEPER INTO MOVIES celebrates the radical, queer youth movies of Gregg Araki.
Araki is famous for his dark, decadent, and deranged takes on teenage life.
Jacob Engelberg is a doctoral candidate at King’s College London, where he is researching bisexual transgression in cinema. He has published work on the cinema of Gregg Araki in the Journal of Bisexuality.
His introduction will look at Araki’s career, his films' treatment of adolescent sexuality, and the wild, apocalyptic situations his characters find themselves in.
This will be followed by a rare UNCUT screening of the endlessly screenshotted, Rose McGowan-starring The Doom Generation (1995) A road trip to hell, or across the American freeways, where gun-toting, self-righteous bigots aim their sights on a trio of lovers on the lam.
