DEAD PLAYERS - New Album Launch!!!

The Dead Players are many things. So many things that it is hard to know where to start. Like a malnourished gerbil banging on the door of ten Downing Street demanding better animal rights for all kickable creatures great and small, this biography was only ever going to scratch the surface of their being.

These are the bones… Dead Players are a trio of musicians comprising of Jam Baxter, Dabbla and Ghosttown. Dabbla and Baxter do the talking and Ghosttown does the sonics. Their debut album is scheduled for release on High Focus Records this August and much like a David Copperfield disappearing-Great-Wall-of-China-illusion it looks set to propel them from a mysterious crew on the cusp of something into a force to be reckoned with wherever they choose to showcase their music.

Baxter went public way back in 2010 during an interview for some local get up. He proclaimed that the person he would ‘most like to collaborate with’ was Dabbla of LDN Zoo. Dabbla heard the call-out and the creative cogs started turning. It was never a question of which producer to recruit; Ghosttown had worked with both emcees in the past and filled the boots of someone with a musical vision potent enough to accommodate the demands of the two lyricists.

The result? A camaraderie so colourful the UK hip hop scene will celebrate its inception for years to come, but moreover, an outfit that looks set to span a wide spectrum of genres and movements with the music they make.

Dead Players have written and recorded an album that is equally suited for a Tuesday evening barbecue with your obese Mother to a Friday night SUPER RAVE. It really doesn’t matter; you could be on a sinking P&O ferry or playing strip croquet with Zsa Zsa Gabor, the sheer musical dexterity on display is at times, game changing. Just ask them yourself. Go find them. They’re about. Dabbla is currently sat in traffic on Holloway road smoking a fist shaped zoogy, Baxter is at Glastonbury (still) and Ghosttown is on Regents Canal watching his dog terrorising EVERYTHING.

REMARC (Suburban Base / Kemet / White House) 90 min set https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGU7Hq9sj_c

Remarc begun his music career at 13 years of age playing reggae, rare groove and electro at house parties in and around his birth town of Brockley in south east London. At 17 he got he’s first break as a DJ on the infamous Weekend Rush pirate radio station playing hardcore and through the progression into jungle. It was here that he initially made a name for himself as a DJ but only really touching a London based audience.

Most of us first heard of Remarc when the dark-side anthem Ricky was released back in '93 on his own label Dollar records. He went on to produce some of the most rinsing jungle imaginable by becoming the ultimate don of the Amen break.

UK based jungle producer and DJ, Remarc is widely proclaimed to be "king of the Amen" and “ a pioneer of ragga jungle” due to his chopped up tracks for legendary labels such as Dollar, White House, Kemet, labbello blanco and Suburban Base. The majority of these tunes were compiled alongside previously unreleased dubplates for a two volume retrospective released by Planet Mu. The re-releases of these classics soon moved as many units if not more than a successful drum n bass release proving that Remarc and the Jungle sound is still an unstoppable force in the game. It also introduced him to the world of other electronic music and a new generation of Junglists and amen mashers, ultimately steering him away from the "typical" drum n bass scene and building a dedicated 2nd fan base.

With tracks appearing on over 111 releases worldwide there is no questioning that if you have not heard of Remarc, its time to open your ears to the founding father of the amen sound. For those familiar with the legend He is still spinning Jungle (oldskool and new) worldwide and has become equally known for his dj sets of undiluted jungle and his arsenal of dubplate specials.

SULLY (Urban Graffiti / Keysound Recordings / Rottun Recordings) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GNgjgo6sjw

Sully aka Jack Stevens is an understated folk hero, a low key elusive bass producer with a fiercely passionate fanbase. Long before – four of five years before – the UK garage revival kicked in and “future” garage had even been dreamt up, Sully began finding a space between 2step’s swing, dubstep’s edge and breakstep’s drums, all underpinned by the rude spirit of jungle. He displayed a deft touch for heart-breaking melodies that could touch people as much as the ruff sub bass could hit them, on EPs like ‘Phonebox’ and ‘Jackman’s Rec.’
