BAG Album Launch Party with The Seer & Thomas Stone:

A night of dark experimental music

We are excited to celebrate the release of BAG's album This House is a Body - out on Phantom Limb - with live sets from BAG, The Seer & Thomas Stone - plus DJs into the night. There will be multiple vinyl giveaways so come and celebrate with us!

BAG

London-based experimental spoken word and electronics duo BAG signs with the Phantom Limb label and announced their new album This House is a Body, out now. A mesmerising new record that fuses visceral poetry with exploratory production, yielding sonics that are by turns beguiling, off-kilter and dreamlike.

“This album functions as a floor plan, a house in itself, collecting and containing the ecosystems of multiple rooms,” write BAG aka Canadian artist & poet Jody DeSchutter and London producer Daniel Allison. “The roles we play can be defined by the room we are in; and it can be near impossible to tell what room we are in without looking from outside. This album maps out a number of rooms which hold such relations, memories, or experiences and builds them all into a single house, a single body.”

Collaborators on the album include Terry Edwards (PJ Harvey, Gallon Drunk), Iggor Cavalera (Sepultura, PetBrick, Cavalera), Angèle David-Guillou and Thomas Stone as well as Laima Leyton (Laima, Soulwax) who masterfully produces the album.

Formed from Allison’s head-spinning, depth-mining production for synthesis, field recording, and acoustic instrumentation, and DeSchutter’s lysergic and prophetic spoken word, the palette of This House is a Body can turn on a dime from claustrophobia and dread to hyperreal dream sequence, illuminated in sun streamed glory in places and dripping with basement effluvia in others. Throughout, words, meaning, and imagery all dissolve into an architecture of alternately familiar and unknowable sound.

BAG formed in London in 2020, initially as an art project by Jody DeSchutter and Dan Allison, and later evolving into a live & recording outfit with the addition of Angèle David-Guillou. Both trained as painters, DeSchutter and Allison approach sound through a visual lens, focusing on composition, layering, texture and content. Their 2020 release Mapping Azure was named one of the year’s top ten cassette albums by The Quietus. In 2023, BAG collaborated with producer and label head Charlie Behrens (Collapsing Drums) on the album Momentary Lapses. This House is a Body marks their third release on their new label home, Phantom Limb.

The Seer

The Seer is the alter ego of Conny Prantera, Italian-born, London-based multidisciplinary artist working across sound, video and performance. Her practice spans painting, collage and digital media, rooted in themes of mysticism, folklore and speculative narrative. This visual language carries through to her music, heightened by her background in video production and set design, and brought to life into highly produced immersive performances.

The Seer has gained critical acclaim, earning a nomination from the Red Bull Academy as one of "7 Women Audiovisual Artists Pushing Boundaries and Challenging Perceptions.
The Seer has also created and directed expanded ensembles including The Animal Choir (Cafe Oto 2019) WorldZero (Supersonic 2019) Ka[h] (Camden Art Center 2020) and Anamnesis (Supernormal 2024). "

Thomas Stone

Thomas Stone (B.1979) is a composer based in London. His practice focuses on live performance utilising bass instruments. Drawing inspiration from disparate sources such as his tinnitus, the act of ritual, the physical effect of sound and 20th-century composition. His influences include the chamber works of Galina Ustvolskaya and Dmitri Shostakovich and the experimental techno of acts such as Emptyset and Pan Sonic. Refined through presentation in various resonant spaces – from churches to a disused water tank; Cornish coastal caves to the hull of a ship – Thomas's compositions use contrabassoon and sampling devices as oscillators for his snare drum. Blurring the boundaries between acoustic and electronic sound sources, his post-classical / post-techno soundscapes use the relatively ugly means of long tones, dissonances and cyclic rhythms to reach moments of austere, fragile beauty.

His music has been released on the record labels Cloudchamber Recordings, Bloxham Tapes and Sensory Leakage.
Billed as an artist to watch by Nick Luscombe on BBC Radio 3.
Performances at institutions including Tate Britain, The Serpentine Gallery, The Whitechapel Gallery, Kings Place and Britten Pears Arts.
