Marla Kether Presents: Kilengi Dance Party

Kilengi Dance Party is a brand new club night curated by DJ, bassist and producer Marla Kether. Each instalment will see some of the UK's finest DJs bringing a fresh selection of afrodiasporic bass music from South America, the UK, Lisbon, the Caribbean and beyond.

FOR LOVERS OF: UK Funky - Garage - 140 - Afro House - Baile Funk - Dembow - Batida - Kuduro - Global Bass

‘Kilengi’ means ‘Joy’ in Koutouba, one of the languages native to Congo; it’s a Dance Party guarantee that a night shaking ass with us will leave you feeling euphoric, revitalised and a lil bit sweaty. All we ask for in exchange is that you be respectful of other party goers - we want this to be a safe space for everyone!

Now without further ado, meet the DJs:

- MARLA KETHER -

Born in London to Congolese parents, Marla Kether is a bassist, producer and DJ. Since taking up DJing during lockdown in 2020 Marla has rapidly honed her craft. She’s been busy taking her high-energy sets around the world, securing bookings at Latitude Festival, Loves Saves The Day and supporting Loyle Carner on his US tour in addition to playing in the band. She has also contributed outstanding mixes for the likes of BBC Radio 6 Music, Crack Magazine, NTS and Selector Radio.

The different strands of Marla's musical career are almost as diverse as her excellent selections, which commonly feature a bass-led blend of kuduro, dembow, GQOM and Jersey club, as well as house and techno tunes from around the globe.

- NGAIO -

Singer/DJ NGAIO has played milestone gigs such as; hosting and playing the opening DJ set at Boiler Room in Bristol, Keep Hush as part of the Booty Bass Takeover and supporting D Double E, Lowkey, and Bugzy Malone at the WikiLeaks event organised by Shangri-La.

This year sees her performing at 14 festivals, including programming and running the Big Top Takeover at Gilles Peterson's We Out Here Festival with the diverse dance crew Shade Cartel. Shindig Festival, Love Saves The Day, Shambala, Tolpuddle and many more.

- GAROËSS -

GAROËSS, is a British-Namibian-Indian DJ and aspiring Producer who thrives on her passion for multi-genre music! Born and raised in Bradford, she found inspiration in her sister's R'n'B tunes, the energetic atmosphere of local Bashment clubs, the rawness of Grime, and the Niche and Bassline CDs that were sold in the school playground.

Embarking on her DJ journey in 2021, GAROËSS has since been infusing a dynamic array of Afro-diasporic beats into her sets, currently influenced by the growing landscape of percussive, African Diasporic sounds in the UK.
