Azalea Arts Variety Show at the Vortex in Dalston - Art Literature Music and Dance - Join Us for this Special Event orn Monday April the 3rd 2023 at the multi award-winning Vortex Jazz club in Dalston 

This is not specifically a Jazz night but a multimedia platform filled with a range of entertainment and artistic expression to suite a range of creative interests.

A chance to make new discoveries and be inspired by imaginative people, carefully chosen for quality and expressiveness.

Nick Cox, aka Coxy, is a writer/director and musician

Nick’s work has been performed on the Edinburgh Fringe and London stage.

6:30 - Katya Kan 

An idiosyncratic specimen of globalization, Kan was born in Almaty, Kazakhstan, my father being North Korean and my mother Russian. Having caught a glimpse of the ex-USSR, she has a conflicting perception of political and cultural systems. Unable to fully assimilate into any one culture, she finds herself as an outsider with an eclectic artistic taste. The concepts, which she explores in her work, include globalization, surveillance, nostalgia, utopia and eroticism. She has exhibited at ICA London, Whitechapel Gallery, Royal Watercolor Society, NYC Untitled Space, the New York Art Expo as well as the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood.

7pm Sammy Vincent

Sammy Vincent. Singer songwriter from Kent. Based in London. His music is predominantly acoustic with story telling lyrics, talking about his own personal experiences from tragedies to melodies

Steve norris will be playing live solo and with guests this year music from the album THE EMERALD CARERCEL writen by Steve Marineboy Norris produced by Martin Glover ...the album features collaborations with Alex Patterson ( THE ORB) Maff Scott & Ned Scott ( THE EGG) df tram . Toby Andersen ..durga mcbroom ( PINK FLOYD) Lena Kaufman GAUDI..ROGER ENO..CECILY ENO. ..poem by Chris Bowsher (RDF)....all at meridian...youths crew actuly the same crew that produced echo and the bumnymen meteorites album.....

8pm Ned Scott

This is a solo piece called patcwork. On Matt Black and Ninja Tune album @0 compiled in lockdiwn. I'm alongside Coldcut, Sigur Ros, Imogen Heap, me, Darren Sanhuitta. I recorded i in the Alps at a live piano ski yoga retreat. On a bluthner grand piano which Philip Glass once wrote on.....music composition, not biro graffiti.

8:15pm Paige Monroe

An exploration through the Feminine Divine, taking place in the cosmic realms. Ritualistic dance performed alongside original music”

830pm WondRWomN

WondRWomN is a 90s baby who grew up heavily influenced by the boom bap-battle rap era, inspired by the underground scene and mainstream, a dichotomy which personifies WondRWomN’s unique style, that she coins as ‘Grit Pop’.Her first release ’The Girl Next Door, that raps.’ featured her anthem ‘WondRWomN WHAT!’ and classic ‘Money’s Not Real’. Based in Tottenham, she built a strong following in the UK hip-hop scene and a burgeoning fanbase internationally, not least in Spain and Portugal, where in 2018 she supported Andalusian Hip-hop legends SFDK. WondRWomN is a regular at Sofar Sounds and has been featured on BBC Introducing (2021).

Primarily a rock band with blues, folk, gypsy, psychedelia and a bit of punk for good measure.
