Prohibition - Electro Swing Boat Party

For any Prohibition newbies, our events fuse the best sounds from the golden era of swing and jazz with beats and bass from the modern day to create an infectiously catchy blend known as ELECTRO SWING!

Remember Remember the 5th November, Gunpowder, Treason, Plot and now the Prohibition Boat Party!!

In 1605, a man called Guy Fawkes and a group of plotters attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London with barrels of gunpowder placed in the basement... to avoid being caught up in the flames we are taking to the water to bring you a very special 5th November Boat Party, setting off in the afternoon for a leisurly jaunt down the Manchester Canal! Sailing from Barca at 3pm, we will be back for 6pm which gives you 1 hour and a half to re fuel before the after party!

Ooh do we have a treat for you! Bringing an element of live performance to the Prohibition Boat Party, is OFFBEAT, resident at Bristol's 'Swing n Tingz'.. vintage poet/lyricst/rapper/singer extraordinaire! Different from the ordinary, usual or expected, rapper Offbeat more than lives up to his name. Fusing Hip Hop vocals with Electro Swing inspired beats! Supplying the beats during Offbeat's performance will be a very special guest DJ! You may have spotted Offbeat's new podcast 'Talking Shop' where he has interviewd Electro Swing heavy weights and past Prohibition guests, Dutty Moonshine and C@ In The H@ ... if you have never heard Offbeat before - check out his sounds here ..favourites of ours include 'Swingers Party' and the aptly named 'Prohibtion' https://soundcloud.com/iamoffbeat 

With explosive support from Prohibition residents Emma Clair and Sly Fandango bringing you up beat swing sounds, this is set to be our best boat party yet!!! 

We are enforcing an optional but highly encourged, 'Guy Fawkes meets vintage nautical' dress code - as is the Prohibition way we will be awarding a prize to the best dressed lady or gentleman!! 

AFTER PARTY (Bridge Tavern, 58 Bridge St, Manchester M3 3BW)

We have listened to feedback on past events and tried to make this our most enjoyable after party yet......There is no charge . yes ladies & gents it's free! But we are not compromising on quality! 

Starting at 7.30pm, to allow you time to chill and recharge after the excitement of the boat party we are staking out the upstairs of the Bridge Tavern, just off Deansgate.

Imagine stepping on to the set of Downton Abbey but a little less posh, well this is the Bridge! With our own private roof terrace and cocktail bar which looks like your gran's front room this venue was made for Prohibition! Period features galour and beautiful vintage decor including a grand father clock, fire places, chandelliers and mirrors! Also lots of comfy seats to relax on when your feet are too tired to dance!

Kicking off the party at 7.30pm with a swing and dixie land jazz set from Emma Clair, at 8pm we are offering a Swing Dance class led by Velody, where you can learn some Charleston dance steps! The dance class is FREE, however to help with costs we are asking for an optional donation, (suggested donation £1 - £2) 

Cocktails will be served all evening priced at just £8.95 for two or £13.99 for a pitcher! If you are hungry, the Bridge have a great food menu in their downstairs bar area.
