“Everybody has these voices, these little voices that tell them what they should and shouldn’t do, what’s right and what’s wrong. The problem with Jim is, his voices aren’t so little.” Bad Advice is an original romantic comedy set entirely within the mind of the main character, Jim. On stage alongside Jim at all times are three distinct aspects of his personality: his ‘good advice’, the embodiment of his overbearing mother-complex, his ‘bad advice’, the incarnation of his crippling insecurity and self doubt, and the narrator, a snarky and vaguely antagonistic version of his internal monologue. An in-your-face kind of comedy, Bad Advice blends the remembered past, the unfolding present and an imagined future seamlessly.

We watch from Jim's perspective as he embarks on his first relationship since coming out of the closet. The only thing standing in his way is his mind; specifically, the troublesome incarnations of Good and Bad Advice. This is a touching and hilarious escapade into the dangers of love, dating and out-of date seafood.

Written by University of Oxford and Cambridge alumnus Eli Keren, Bad Advice has been performed at the University of Cambridge to a sell-out audience at the Corpus Playroom and is now making it’s way to Twenty Twenty Two in the Northern Quarter as part of The Greater Manchester Fringe Theatre Festival.
