To honour the life and work of Nujabes, one of the most beloved beatmakers of all time, we welcome London-based ensemble Stompy’s Playground who specialise in recreating electronic music using a combination of orchestral instruments, synthesizers and drum kits.
It’s no hyperbole to say that Nujabes was second only to J Dilla in the pantheon of 20th century beats producers. Spanning not just hip-hop but nu-jazz, breakbeat, trip hop and much more besides, Nujabes’s work is dense in its orchestration and musicality making it perfect for this kind of reinterpretation.
Heading up the project is producer Kidkanevil, who himself was and still is heavily influenced by Nujabes and the Far East beats scene.
