Grimm Up North Presents:
Proudly screening as part of the BFI's Love Season:
Synopsis: When Scottie (James Stewart) is hired to watch the strange behaviour of his friend's wife Madeleine (Kim Novak) he begins to fall madly in love, slowly becoming more and more obsessed until one day, she leaps from a bell tower - but in true Hitchcock style, all is not as it seems. It is perhaps Bernard Herrmann's most haunting, evocative and romantic score: spiralling, falling and rising to echo Scottie's frame of mind. Hitchcock was so impressed with the music he expanded some of the scenes to accommodate it, most notably in the eight-minute-long dialogue-free recognition scene, where, the director instructed: "This is where your music does the talking”.
Each screening will be introduced with a talk about the film.
