HMRC Presents: Hits are for Squares (With SPELK & CIRCUS)

18 April 2024 - HMRC are performing their long-anticipated, first-ever headline set! If you've caught these guys before, you know that this will be a no-nonsense show! Support from SPELK & more TBA.

The bands:

HMRC:

HMRC (acronym redacted) is a post-post-punk quartet from the corrupted northern quarters of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Bound together by their innate hatred of class-based discrimination and the social injustices driven by the ever-fattening ruling class, they paint a picture of faint hope in a societal wasteland that seems painfully devoid of champions to challenge the elitist, post-feudal swamp that is modern Britain.

Infuriated by modern music’s placatory, half-baked efforts to raise personal profile through self-expression & gain personal attention through performative liberalism, HMRC’s debut EP (RWANDA, 2023) screams in the face of all that is unholy, be that domestic violence, the social housing crisis or, naturally, the xenophobic rhetoric that sees the public sit idly by as the government seeks to deport refugees and asylum seekers fleeing missiles that were sold to the violent oppressors of the world by our pathetic excuse of a government.

The HMRC guys knocked it out of the park with their first single of 2024 "Frank Bruno" - an angsty yet sombre ode to the titular pugilist, featuring scathing undertones of outrage towards the exploitation that still runs rife in sporting communities to this day. Also expect to celebrate the release of the second of 2024's singles - "Chloe Tells Me", released on April 4th, described by BBC introducing as "daring".

SPELK:

Newcastle-based alt/math-rock band SPELK have recently caught our attention for their complex arrangements, rip-roaring riffs and all round party vibes. They have described themselves as "Primus meets Tool, except nobody wins", and if you ask us, that sounds about right!
