THE BIG LEBOWSKI

Not many films can boast to have inspired their own religion (Dudeism, with over 450,000 ordained ‘priests’ across the globe), so it’s only fitting that Pig-turehouse cult film nigh takes a bow till 2018 with Coen brothers’ ultimate 1998 cult classic The Big Lebowski! 

If you have never seen this hilarious masterpiece, you’re in for a visual treat with an outstanding soundtrack; if you’ve seen it more times than you can count on your fingers and green-painted toes, you’ll be savouring another long-overdue viewing!

Jeffrey ‘The Dude’ Lebowski (Jeff Bridges) is a super laid-back stoner, an avid bowler and a White Russian sipping, dressing gown sporting Los Angeles slacker. The Dude’s chilled out life takes a turn when he’s attacked in a case of mistaken identity with a millionaire called Jeffrey Lebowski, getting mixed up in the kidnap plot of the rich man’s wife. 

As well as Jeff Bridges’ spot-on central performance (the character was specifically written for Bridges), the truly unmissable support comes from John Goodman (as the uncontrollable Vietnam vet Walter Sobchak), Steve Buscemi (as the timid Donny) and John Turturro (as the eccentric bowler Jesus Quintana) and the late, great Philip Seymor Hoffman (as Big Lebowski’s twitchy assistant) and many more outstanding eccentricities to keep you glued to your seat.

Written, produced and directed by the esteemed Oscar winning brothers Ethan and Joel Coen (Fargo, No Country for Old Men, Miller’s Crossing, Burn After Reading, Inside Llewyn Davis), The Big Lebowski was a disappointment at the box office upon its release. However, the film’s utter charm has elevated it into a firm cult film status, with hugely dedicated fans all over the world, spawning its own annual Lebowski Fest as well as its own religion.

Pair with White Russians and film-inspired Licor 43 cocktails for a proper Lebowski experience. The Dude, as they say, abides.
