“Genre? I hardly know ‘er!” Well, take this course and find out! Breaking down the universal structures of genre storytelling, this workshop presents a “cheatsheet” improvisers can work with to create characters, storylines, and iconic scenes.
Taught using the horror genre as a guide, this is a crash course in improv theory, using short-form games, acting exercises, and group work to dissect the core tenants of genre improv, culminating in a (short) longform set. Whether you love sci-fi, rom-coms, or French New Wave neo-noir thrillers, this crash course will give even seasoned performers new tools to play with.
This workshop is part of the Greater Manchester Improv Festival (GMIF) 5th-7th June 2026. From up and coming acts to award-winning show the festival showcases local talent and visiting shows. For the 2026 festival there are 20 shows and 4 workshops with tickets for all shows just £5! Once you've done booking a ticket for this one, why not check out all the other fantastic shows too?
