Travelling Light by Nicholas Wright
Director: Daniel Goldman
Design: Toby Coulton
Venue: Weston Theatre, The Unicorn Theatre
In a remote village in Eastern Europe, at the dawn of the 20th century, a young man is entranced by the flickering silent images on his father’s cinematograph. As he attempts to capture the vibrancy of village life, he discovers a new way to tell stories, and lays the foundation for the today’s movie industry. With footage from the early village films represented by live performers, and uproarious reactions from villagers who watch their own lives made into fiction, this is a funny and moving celebration of the Eastern European immigrants who contributed to Hollywood’s golden age.
