Carol Hodge is a Yorkshire-based, seven-fingered singer-songwriter whose piano-driven songs sit somewhere between dark irony and stubborn optimism. Wry, confessional and emotionally direct, her music will likely make you laugh, wince, and feel something — possibly all at once.
Best known as a live co-vocalist and keys player with Crass’ The Ignorant Band and The Wildhearts, Carol’s fifth studio album EffortLess InSecurity marks her heaviest release yet: a deep dive into stoner rock and piano-led prog, with unflinching lyrics exploring neurodiversity, self-doubt, attachment, and autistic masking. It’s also the first album to feature her on guitar.
Co-produced with Dave Draper, the record balances weight and melody with unexpected twists, self-aware humour, and a strong emotional core — confirming Carol Hodge as a singular voice in contemporary alternative music.
