Lohri, a traditional punjabi festival that marks the end of winter, also where historically the birth of boys was celebrated, or the marriage of a newly-wed couple. Historically, as men were seen as the breadwinners, the birth of baby boys was celebrated. Panjab still has one of the highest rates of female infanticides and foeticide in India. The birth of baby boys is still seen as more favourable in the south asian community. Kudiyan Di Lohri is here to challenge and change the traditional conceptions to promote female empowerment and celebrate her!
