Pioneers
Following a whirlwind first year, Southampton’s four-piece indie-rockers Pioneers are wasting no time getting things going in 2019. With a massive hometown headline show already sold out at the 400 cap Engine Rooms on Friday 15th March, Pioneers will also be embarking on a small support tour along the south coast to support their new singles, which frontman Sam Watts (20) describes as “the best thing we’ve done as a band so far”.
The rest of the band is made up by drummer Charlie Flide (21), lead guitarist Toby Gathercole (20), and bassist Bailey Sandom (20), with the boys all growing up in the same Hampshire area. Having met in school, they bonded over a mutual love of late noughties indie music from the likes of Jamie T and Arctic Monkeys, and eventually found their way in to a studio together.
Sam took the project from his bedroom, and taught Charlie & Bailey their respective instruments. Rather than finding ready-made musicians, Sam wanted to ‘take time’ – fittingly, the title of their debut single that propelled them on to BBC Radio 1’s radar – to grow an organic band relationship.
Sarpa Salpa
Formed by Marcus Marooth and George Neath. The pair quickly recruited Charlie Doe on drums, with Ethan Whitby completing the lineup a couple of months later.
Since their formation Sarpa Salpa have supported the likes of; Flyte, INHEAVEN and Electric Six across the country.
With Influences ranging from Tame Impala, Everything Everything, Foals to The Beatles. Sarpa Salpa are a young, 4 piece, Indie Rock band inspired by deep wave sounds with unexpected changes and hidden meanings.
Dirty Orange
The Stone Birds
Inspired by the classic rock of the 60s and 70s, The Stone Birds originally formed as a two-piece band in 2018 and released their first single, Take It Back, later that same year. The band then became a three-piece at the turn of year and released a brand new song in January 2019, Fire in a Rose. The following month they played their first show, in their hometown of Portsmouth, with Portuguese band Zanibar Aliens.
