PRESS RELEASE: VERBOSE MONDAY 27th April 2026, KINGS ARMS SALFORD, 7.30PM

One of Manchester’s longest running spoken word events, Verbose, returns on Monday 27th April 2026 at the Kings Arms.

Verbose has a proud history of bringing together a vibrant mix of live literature from poetry, prose and everything in between. Verbose welcomes new talent to the open mic alongside established writers and performers wanting to showcase new material, giving audiences the chance to hear work that is on its way to be published or perhaps feature at festivals including Glastonbury, Edinburgh Fringe and many more.

Over the years Verbose has hosted writers who have since gone on to win local, national and international awards for their work or feature on national radio and beyond. A night that offers any audience a chance to see an incredible array of talent month in, month out.

Introducing our headliners for April!

Maureen Onuwunali is a Dublin-born Nigerian poet and a two-time national slam champion. Her work has been featured by various musicians, radio shows, and organisations, including Apples and Snakes, BBC Radio London, BFI, Pearson Poetry Society, Obsidian Foundation, Roundhouse, Tedx and TG4.

Kamran Sajid is a writer currently based in Manchester. His writing taps into an underworld intuition; a tuberous, arcane exploration into surrealism, codeswitching and primordialism. He is published in English PEN’s PEN Transmissions series, and has read his poetry at Simon Armitage’s ‘Blossomise’ book launch, Manchester Literature Festival and Aviva Studios. Kamran has shared his poetry internationally too - recently with Young Identity in Cologne, Germany. He won the 2025 Forward Prizes Young Poets’ Summit Slam, and was a Shadow Judge of the 2024 Forward Prizes.

To enter the draw for an open mic slot, please email us on verbosemanchester@gmail.com between 1st and 6th April.
