DANCE #16 w/ Toddla T, Danny Rankin aka DJ Decoy (Kurupt FM) & Le Cheval
& so we return to Reading University for our AW/18 run of events, picking up from where we left you all in May with a sold out show from Doncaster's finest Mella Dee.
To welcome faces old & new (hello!) to RUSU on Friday 12th October we have jumped in at the deep end for the first DANCE of term, three acts for you to witness & get lost within their sounds on the dancefloor. Let's be having you Reading University...
TODDLA T >>>
Producer and Radio 1 DJ Toddla T is one of the UK’s most original talents. Heavily influenced by music and culture from around the World, Toddla’s sound is individually British, drawing heavy influence from reggae and dancehall, Sheffield’s electronic scene and the essence of soul and RnB.
An ever growing presence throughout the UK and beyond with his curated Toddla T Takeover shows and DJ sets, not many DJs, if any, can say they have played for Defected in Ibiza as well as a yearly residency at Notting Hill Carnival in addition to Stone Love’s Weddy Weddy street party in Kingston, Jamaica.
DANNY RANKIN aka DJ DECOY (KURUPT FM/PEOPLE JUST DO NOTHING) >>>
Beginning his journey in the garage/grime scene and on TV as People Just Do Nothing’s fictional character Decoy, Danny Rankin has now started making waves in his own right, mixing up current UK sounds, Afrobeat, Dancehall & carnival vibes!
Like Toddla, Danny has also graced stages all over shop as resident DJ for Kurupt FM, ticking off Glastonbury, Bestival, Wireless and Lovebox in the UK to tearing it up across Europe at Hideout, Ibiza Rocks and Amnesia. Now it's time for RUSU!
LE CHEVAL (Island Records) >>>
Like most normal young horses growing up in the French resort town of Cannes in the 00s, Le Cheval was obsessed with three things: football, chess and dance music. Fast forward to 2014 & he found himself in the UK, DJing at underground raves in London, finally quenching a long-held & relentless thirst for making people dance. Foootball & chess still feature heavily day to day.
With this newly found & innate knowledge of what makes people truly move from his basement sessions across the capital, Le Cheval got to work on his own productions with a focus on what he believes are essential to make a dance track work: warmth, humour, a bit of
house & a smidge of afrobeat. 'Fandango' was born.
Can you do the Fandango?
